AI-assisted development still needs expertise

I attended as a participant

The Data Science Seminar on AI for Software Engineering at the University of Tartu.

These are my notes as an attendee at ‘Data Science Seminar: AI for SE — Do you have the right vibe?’, held on 28 January 2026.

A University of Tartu seminar where businesses and the university shared perspectives on AI in software development and organisations.

What I took away

Adopting AI is not a matter of flipping a switch. People retain responsibility, and specialist knowledge becomes more important, not less.

How I use this in my work

I use these insights to help businesses understand their current stage of AI adoption and which rules need to be in place before expanding its use.

The article on what vibe coding is looks more closely at AI-assisted development. It compares Lovable, Claude Code and Codex, using a simple calculator to show what still needs checking in a working prototype.
